Professional Teaching Competence for Higher Education Institutes
The advanced training programme “Professional Teaching Competence for Higher Education Institutes“ has been coordinated and agreed upon in the educational network “Netzwerk Hochschuldidaktik NRW“. It is oriented towards
- the directives of Deutschen Gesellschaft für Hochschuldidaktik (dghd- German Association for Higher Education Didactics). These serve as a guideline for the programme design of the didactical-educational institutes and networks across Germany,
- international standards,
- higher education legislation demanding the pedagogical suitability as a qualification for the employment of teachers at higher education institutes (Art. 1 § 36 (1) clause 2 HZG NRW 2014). The suitability can be proven by the certificate “Professional Teaching Competence for Higher Education Institutes”.
The targets of the didactical-educational advanced training are pursued in subject fields which also refer to the central task fields of the teaching personnel at higher education institutes.
1. Teaching and Learning
2. Examinations and Assessment
3. Consultancy for Students
5. Developing Innovations in Teaching and Studies
Moreover, advanced training promotes self and role reflection and puts the focus on the development of a professional self-perception as a teacher.
The programme consists of three modules having a total scope of at least 200 working units (per 45 minutes).
The basic module serves to provide basic didactical-educational competencies. The focus here is on the organisation of learning processes in so far as it refers to learning situations, courses, and the promotion of self-study.
In the extension module, special and also subject-related aspects of teaching are pointed out whereby the subjects dealt with in the basic module shall be carried forward. Complementary, other subject fields are added:
Examinations and Assessment – Consultancy for Students – Evaluation
The in-depth module provides teachers the opportunity to qualify themselves better in the meaning of their own interests and in a self-regulated manner. In this module, the subject field of “Developing Innovations in Teaching and Studies” shall become the thematic priority. Generally, the teaching personnel intensely deal with a self-chosen didactical-educational theme or project being the core of the module.
Each module comprises 60-80 working units.
